Overview
Tapered rollers between conical raceways carry heavy combined loads. The separable cone and cup simplify fitting.
Tapered roller bearings have conical inner and outer ring raceways with tapered rollers between them. The raceway projection lines meet at a common point on the bearing axis, which gives true rolling and high capacity for combined radial and axial loads.
The cone (inner ring with rollers and cage) and the cup (outer ring) are separable. Bearings are usually mounted in pairs, with the clearance or preload set during installation.
